How to find Finnish comic artists at Lakes International Comic Art Festival?

For one weekend on October, comic buffs from all over the world gather to Lakes International Comic Art Festival. The Festival takes place in the picturesque town of Kendal. Comic art takes over the whole town: museums, shops’ windows and schools. Three Finnish comic artists are coming to the festival this year. Here is where you can find them:

Kaisa Leka is a Finnish comic artist, amputee, disability rights activist and adventurer. Her creation Female Mutant Ninja Turtles, can be spotted in Hero(ine)s -exhibition. On Sunday she will talk about her latest book, travel diary Imperfect, which tells about her cycling tour from New York to San Francisco.

Emmi Nieminen is an illustrator and comic artist from Tampere. On Saturday she will present her latest, very topical project: a journalist comic book about online misogyny made together with journalist Johanna Vehkoo.

Petteri Tikkanen is an illustrator and comic artist based in Iisalmi. On Sunday he will be drawing zombies with Luke McGarry (USA), Sean Phillips (UK) and Charlie Adlard (UK) at the Big Live Draw. Tikkanen’s work will be hard to miss during the weekend as he has made the logo for this years Lakes International Comic Art Festival 2018.

 Kaisa Leka’s Female Turtles at Hero(ine)s-exhibition

Renowned comic artists have updated iconic male comic heroes to female versions. Don’t miss patriarchy-smashing Female Mutant Ninja Turtles by Finnish comic artist Kaisa Leka! The exhibition is part of the international Hero(in)es project, which is originally created by Lyon BD (Lyon Comics) and curator Jean-Christophe Deveney. In 2014 JC Deveney invited French comic artists  to draw female versions of iconic French comic heroes like Asterix and Tintin.
