Apply for Northern Photographic Centre and Street Level Photoworks Artist Residency

This open call to Finnish photographers or artists working with photography is for a 35-day residency which will take place in Glasgow and the surrounding areas between September and October of 2021.

Visit Scotland’s ‘Year of Coast and Waters 2021’ celebrates and shines a spotlight on Scotland’s beautiful natural environment. Nature is gaining a momentum with people expressing a desire to experience rural and especially coastal destinations. However, at the same time, temperatures are soaring and storms are raging. According to the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference, to be held in Glasgow in November 2021, if we do not act quickly, every single one of us will be affected. Northern Photographic Centre in collaboration with Street Level Photoworks are inviting artists to react to the urgent global climate situation and engage Scotland’s natural environment in a responsible way.

Through this programme Northern Photographic Centre and Street Level Photoworks are opening up opportunities to explore, amongst other things, contemporary cultural and economic links, landscape, coast and water, remoteness, as well as environmental interdependence.

The residency is aimed at artists who identify with the North and aforementioned themes, are from Northern Finland, or have a strong connection to Northern Finland. The residency is supported by Northern Photographic Centre, Street Level Photoworks, and Finnish Institute in the UK and Ireland.
