THE FINNISH INSTITUTE IN LONDON Our mission is to create positive change through culture, knowledge and art. We work in the fields of art, culture and society, and we collaborate with artists, researchers, experts and policy makers in the United Kingdom, Finland and the Republic of Ireland, and we act as a catalyst for positive social change through our partnerships.

Our Arts & Culture Programme focuses on the fields of contemporary art, design, contemporary circus and audiovisual media. We create opportunities for cross-disciplinary collaboration between Finnish, British and Irish arts professionals. We support cultural exchange through artist residencies, expert visits, commissions, exhibitions, events and seminars. All our projects are produced in collaboration with local partners.

SHORT DESCRIPTION 4 to 6 month internship within the Arts & Culture Programme at the Finnish Institute in London.

DESCRIPTION OF PLACEMENT The intern will support the Head of Programme in developing and managing the Institute’s Arts & Culture Programme. Work at the Institute is often fast-paced, requiring multi-tasking and prioritising skills and a ”can do” attitude. Typical tasks include organising events and expert visits, making travel and accommodation arrangements, and managing internal office routines. We value initiative, teamwork, flexibility and organisational skills. Excellent skills in Finnish and English are essential. Knowledge of the programme’s focus areas, experience in event management, and social media skills are considered a plus.

FUNDING The selected intern must be able to secure funding for the internship him/herself. Previous interns have secured funding for example through their universities, the Erasmus programme or the employment office (työelämävalmennus).
